Cellular and Molecular Biology

The field of cellular and molecular biology is one of the most important basic sciences in the higher education system, the purpose of which is to teach biology students at the appropriate academic level and to train dedicated and professional researchers who know the basic concepts of biology and experience the theoretical and practical aspects of it and are able to solve the problems of research and industrial centers by passing theoretical and experimental courses such as cellular and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, animal and plant science. In recent years, molecular and cellular biology has become a strategic discipline in most developed and developing countries. Given its key role in biological sciences and development of new technologies, planning to train skilled researchers in this area has become very important. Research in cell biology, which is closely related to the molecular debates, is considered the landmark point of vegetable, animal and human biology, and has a considerable volume of the world’s updated research activities. The research in the field of developmental biology and the differentiation of stem cells with clinical approach is one of the most attractive fields in basic sciences and medicine which gives clear horizons for inventing new therapeutic approaches and consequently enhancing the scientific position of the country. Although there has been fields such as genetics and microbiology at graduate and postgraduate education since years ago in the faculty, the molecular biology department was officially launched as an independent department by setting up new fields of biotechnology and nanobiotechnology. Currently, students are studying bachelor’s programs in biotechnology and cellular and molecular biology and master’s programs in nanobiotechnology and genetics. In the perspective of educational planning of this department, the establishment of fields of study such as molecular sciences, bioinformatics in master’s and PhD levels is followed by centrality of genetics. Currently, Dr. Naser Farrokhi is the head of the cellular and molecular department.
