A bio-nanotechnology product named "iron-xylomannan nanocomposite" was designed and produced by researchers of Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) and Royan Institute.
Dr. Mohammad Reza Ghalamboran, faculty member of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology of SBU and Dr. Ruhollah Fathi, faculty member of the Reproductive Sciences Research Institute and Embryology Group of Royan Institute designed and produced the "iron-xylomannan nanocomposite" bio-nanotechnology product.
This product is the result of 6 years of continuous scientific research and effective and successful interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers of SBU and Royan Institute.
The iron-xylomannan nanocomposite product is a biocompatible medical compound that was produced for the first time in the world and in Iran. This product, which has significantly improved the results of in vitro maturation (IVM) and I Vitro Fertilization (IVF) of animals, provides a good prognosis for clinical use and human assisted reproductive methods.
This product has been used as a new biological compound to improve the glass freezing process of tissues, sex cells, especially mouse eggs and embryos, and has controlled the lethal and inhibiting factors in the growth and development of cells and tissues in freezing and post-freezing conditions. This product will be soon tested on human subjects.
Some of the results of studies and research on the use of this product have been published in prestigious international journals related to reproductive sciences and presented in international conferences such as "Cryobiology", and the relevant group of researchers also received the international young researcher award from the Society for Cryobiology in 2022.
This product has been patented in the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Iran, and the foregoing researchers are trying to produce it on a semi-industrial scale in order to meet the needs of reproductive science and embryology researchers who are involved in the storage of biological samples (such as cells and tissue) by the freezing method.
The iron-xylomannan nanocomposite product has been designed and produced in such a way that it can be used in other research needs of medical sciences and food industry, and newer types of this product with more diverse applications will be unveiled in the near future.
It is worth mentioning that another achievement of the successful cooperation of the aforementioned scientific and research group has been the training of human resources needed by the country, so that several efficient students and researchers have been trained in post-doctoral, doctoral and master's degrees, some of whom are working in domestic research centers.
