The Persian translation of the book “Current Technologies in Plant Molecular Breeding” by Dr. Naser Farrokhi, associate professor of Shahid Beheshti University's Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, and Samaneh Karmi Moalem, PhD graduate of Shahid Beheshti University, has been published recently in 460 pages by SBU Press. The book was originally authored by Hee-Jong Koh, Suk-Yoon Kwon and Michael Thomson.
Plant breeding is the science of improving plant traits using genetic analyses in order to produce plants with superior and desirable characteristics.
This book, which is structured in nine chapters, includes topics such as perspectives of plant breeding, basics of genetic analysis of agricultural traits, QTL identification methods, application of molecular markers in true plant breeding, genome sequencing and how to analyze the relationship between sequencing data and phenotype, genome-wide association studies, mutation screening and targeted mutagenesis methods, how to isolate interesting genes and how to analyze gene action along with case studies, the basic principles of gene transfer in major crops and commercialization methods of genetically modified crops.
The superiority of this valuable book is in the eloquent and step-by-step description of the evolutionary path of breeding and biotechnological solutions from the past to the present. Therefore, the translators have also attempted to provide an accurate and readable translation of the book while maintaining this superiority, and have added some useful and practical points and explanations to the text to make the content more understandable and concrete for students, researchers and professors in the fields of breeding, biotechnology and plant molecular biology.
